This week we welcome Dawson Church to the show. Dawson Church, PhD, is an award-winning author whose best-selling book The Genie in Your Genes (www.YourGeniusGene.com) has been hailed by reviewers as a breakthrough in our understanding of the link between emotions and genetics. His follow-up title Mind to Matter, (www.MindToMatter.club) reviews the science of peak mental states. He founded the National Institute for Integrative Healthcare (www.NIIH.org) to study and implement promising evidence-based psychological and medical techniques. His groundbreaking research has been published in prestigious scientific journals. He is the editor of Energy Psychology: Theory, Research, and Treatment, a peer-reviewed professional journal (www.EnergyPsychologyJournal.org) and a blogger for the Huffington Post. He shares how to apply the breakthroughs of energy psychology to health and athletic performance through EFT Universe (www.EFTUniverse.com), one of the largest alternative medicine sites on the web.

Questions we ask in this episode:

  • What are the principals behind EFT?
  • What is EFT best used for?
  • Do I need a trained therapist?

This week, I'm excited to welcome Dawson Church.

Dawson is a health writer and researcher who has edited and authored a number of books in the fields of health, psychology and spirituality. In this particular episode, we focus largely on EFT, which is emotional freedom techniques and specifically the science and studies that support it. I learn a huge amount during our chat including strategies, which may help me overcome my fear of spiders. Fascinating stuff. Without further ado, let's get into the show. Hey, guys. This is Stu from 180 Nutrition and I'm delighted to welcome Dawson Church to the show. Good morning or good evening, afternoon Dawson for you. Sorry. You're in a different continent, aren't you?

Dawson

01:31 All of the above, Stuart.

Stu

01:35 Brilliant.

Dawson

01:35 Different part of the world.

Stu

01:36 Exactly. Well, we are connected which is the most important thing. Thank you again for your time and before we get into the questions today, I would love if you could just tell our listeners that may not be familiar about who you are, a little bit about your work and what you do and why you do it?

Dawson

01:54 Sure. Well, I've been intrigued by energy healing for many, many years. When I was a teenager after high school, I went and lived in a spiritual community where I learned energy healing and learned meditation, so these things are part of my awareness for a long, long time, but what I found really exciting starting in the 1980s where meditation was first being studied was the accumulation or empirical evidence that things like practices, like compassion, like mindfulness, like meditation, like acupuncture, acupressure, all of these seemingly esoteric energetic practices have direct effects and initially the research was on the psyche, so is on anxiety and depression, pain, but now, we have the tools like MRIs, and EEGs to actually drill down and see if they're affecting us physiologically, dramatically.

For the last many, 20, 25 years, I've been collecting evidence, I've been writing books, I've been running clinical trials, I've been doing social projects all to try, and raise the profile of energy medicine in primary care. I wanted in veterans administration hospitals, I wanted in primary care clinics, I wanted in psychotherapy offices. As we get to realize and understand just how profoundly this affects our wellness, I believe it has a place at the frontline of medical care so that's really what my passion is now and that's why I've written ... My earlier book is called, "The Genie in Your Genes," about epigenetics and now this new book, "Mind to Matter," about how our brains and our minds literally are having drastic effects to our bodies and the world around us.

This week we welcome back Michele Chevalley Hedge to the show. Michele is a Nutritional Medicine Practitioner, (Adv. Dip of Nutritional Medicine, Australia Traditional Medicine Society) and the author of many health related articles. She also has proven strategies to incorporate good nutrition into a fast paced family, as the mother of three teenage children and her own busy practice. She can empathise with all types! A Healthy View recently has expanded Sydney operations to open in New York, with its new online family wellness program Low Sugar Lifestyle.

Questions we ask in this episode:

  • What are the tell-tale signs of hormone imbalance?
  • In terms of nutrition, what foods most negatively impact our hormones?
  • How long does it typically take to start seeing (and feeling) positive results?

This week, I'm excited to welcome Michele Chevalley Hedge. Michele is a highly commended nutritionist, health writer and presenter who is often introduced as the modern day nutritionist, the one who likes a bit of wine and coffee. Love it. Her latest book, The Healthy Hormone Diet, offers a four week reset to help reduce weight, increase energy, and improve mood, which is what we're gonna talk about today.

01:07 Now, I really love Michele's approach to health and nutrition, and I know you'll enjoy this interview as much as I did. Over to Michele.

01:19 Hey guys. This is Stu from 180 Nutrition, and I'm delighted to welcome Michele Chevalley Hedge back to the show. Good afternoon Michele. How are you?

Michele

01:27 Hi Stu. Thanks for having me on.

Stu

01:29 No problems. Look, before we jump into all of the good bits about the show today, I would love it if you could just tell our listeners a little bit about who you are and what you do.

Michele

01:40 Okay, sure. My name is Michele Chevalley Hedge. I'm a qualified nutritionist, and I'm the founder of A Healthy View. And I chose that name for my business because as a nutritionist I believe in a healthy view, and not an extreme one. I'm often introduced as the modern day nutritionist, the one who likes a little bit of a cheeky pinot, and a little bit of coffee, which I first, Stu, you know, when I was first introduced like that-

This week we welcome Dr. William Davis to the show. He is a Milwaukee-based American cardiologist and author of health books known for his stance against "modern wheat", which he labels a "perfect, chronic poison." This view had previously been rejected by the medical and agricultural industry based on conjecture, minimal controlled studies, and challenges inherent to clinical research, however anecdotal evidence such as Dr. Davis's and among many patients in the western populace suggest more research is necessary to understand and measure physiological and psychological influences that gluten and today's contemporary cultivars of wheat may have on human health apart from non-therapeutic dietary trends. In a review of May 2015 published in Gastroenterology, Fasano et al. conclude that, although there is an evident "fad component" to the recent rise in popularity of the gluten-free diet, there is also growing and unquestionable evidence of the existence of non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

Questions we ask in this episode:

  •  Is wheat really as harmful as we’re led to believe?
  • What’s the connection of wheat consumption and heart disease?
  • Can 2 slices of wholewheat bread raise blood sugar levels higher than a snickers bar?

https://shop.180nutrition.com.au/

Stu

This week, I’m excited to welcome Dr. William Davis. Dr. Davis is a cardiologist and author of the New York Times best-selling book, Wheat Belly. He’s known for his stance against modern wheat, and believes that it’s the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic. Fascinating stuff. In this episode, we discuss how he witnessed over 2000 patients regain their health, after giving up wheat. Also, get this, while eating a Snickers bar is less unhealthy than eating two slices of bread. You guys have been asking for this interview for a while now, and I’m truly honored to chat to Dr. Davis today. Let’s get into the show. 01:25 Hey guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition, and I am delighted to welcome Dr. William Davis to the show. Good morning Dr. Davis, although, it probably isn’t morning for you is it? It’s probably the afternoon.

William

01:36 It’s dinner time around here Stu.

Stu

01:37 Oh okay. No problems. Look, firstly thank you so much for sharing your time. For all those that may not be familiar with your work, and there probably won’t be that many people that aren’t, I would love for you to tell our listeners a little bit about who you are and what you do.

William

01:53 I practiced cardiology, interventional cardiology for about 25 years. Became very disenchanted, disappointment what that meant, and practiced preventive cardiology, but truly tried to stop and reverse coronary disease. Did it in many people, and that led to the writing of my Wheat Belly series of books, and then more recently the undoctored book.

01:23 Hwy guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition and I am delighted to welcome Amy Clover to the show. Good morning Amy. Or don't say good morning, I think it's afternoon for you, isn't it?

Stu: This week we welcome Jim Kwik to the show. He is the founder of Kwik Learning and a widely recognized world expert in speed-reading, memory improvement, brain performance, and accelerated learning.

For over two decades, he has served as the brain coach to students, seniors, entrepreneurs, and educators, and as an advisor to many of the world’s leading CEOs and celebrities.

Questions we ask in this episode:

  • What do you say to those who self-label themselves as ‘just having a poor memory’?
  • What do you think are the most common roadblocks where learning is concerned?
  • What are your thoughts on artificial stimulants like coffee or energy drinks?
  • Do you think that nutrition can impact our mental performance?

https://shop.180nutrition.com.au/

This week, I'm excited to welcome Jim Kwik. Now Jim is the founder of Kwik Learning, a widely recognized world expert in speed reading, memory improvement, brain performance, and accelerated learning. In this episode, we discuss the strategies he developed to improve the productivity of our brains, and on the flip side, the most common roadblocks that hold us back from our full potential.
Stu: 00:01:02 So if you think you've been burdened with a poor memory, or you struggle to remember phone numbers, or simply want to sharpen your brain, then you will get a lot from this interview. Anyway, enough rambling from me. Let's get into the show.

Stu

00:01:18 Hey guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition, and I am delighted to welcome Jim Kwik to the show. Good morning, Jim. How are you?

Jim

00:01:25 Stu, thank you, and thank everybody who's joining us. Looking forward to this.

Stu

00:01:29 Fantastic. So Jim, before we get into the nuts and bolts of the show today, I would love if you could just tell our listeners a little bit about yourself, what you do, why you do it, and go for it.

Jim

00:01:46 Sounds good. Well, if people are listening to this episode, at some level they're probably interested in improving their mental performance, their focus, their memory, they want to read faster, they know their brain controls every aspect of their life. If people see me on stage or on YouTube, they've seen me memorize 100 people's names. Like literally, 100 people stand up and I'll remember their names, or they'll give me 100 words or 100 numbers, and I'll memorize them forwards and backwards.

But I always tell people, Stu, I don't do this to impress you. I do this more to express to you what's possible because the truth is every single person who's listening to this can do that and a lot more. The only challenge is we weren't taught. If anything, we were taught a lie, a lie that somehow our intelligence, our potential, our memory for instance is somehow fixed, like our shoe size.

Stu: This week we welcome Stig Severinsen to the show. He is a Danish freediver. He is a four-time world freediving champion and holder of multiple Guinness World Records. He wrote Træk Vejret – mere energi, mindre stress (2009), published in English in 2010 as Breatheology – The Art of Conscious Breathing.

Questions we ask in this episode:

  • How can we improve performance with just our breath?
  • Why do most of us panic to breathe after 15 seconds underwater?
  • Can our breathing patterns improve the way we sleep?
  • I’ve heard you talk about being ‘relaxed in an instance’, how can we achieve this?

http://180nutrition.com.au/

This week I'm excited to welcome an old friend, Stig Severinsen. Stig is a world free diving champion. He holds multiple Guinness World Records for his aquatic exploits and he's an expert, no surprise, on the art of conscious breathing. In this episode we discuss how he's mastered the art of breathing into a practice that allows us to perform better every single day both physically and mentally and how we can become relaxed in an instant, so great technique. I tried it. It works surprisingly well. He's a great guy. His world record attempt will astound you, so please dial, have a listen. Enough rambling from me. Let's get into the show.

Hey guys. This is Stu from 180 Nutrition and I am delighted to welcome Stig Severinsen to the show. Good morning, Stig.

Stig

00:01:32 Good morning, sir, and thank you very much.

Stu

00:01:34 Thank you so much for joining us. I think first up before we get into the juicy questions, I would love it if you could just tell our listeners a little bit about who you are and what you do.

Stig

00:01:46 Well, I'm a very curious person by nature, so to speak. I always loved animals, biology. So even before you got into books and all that, I loved to study nature and catch animals and observe them. So I was kind of born to become a biologist, which I then did 20, 25 odd years later. And then I went into ... Did a PhD study in medicine and so forth, went into more scientific work. But I've always been very curious, and I loved to understand more about the connection between animals, between organs. Now of course with human beings, the organs, the brain, our inner organs, so how can we optimize our health and our performance, sports basically? And how can we use then, what is my big mission in life, breathing techniques to alter to the state of mind? For example, go into the state of flow, into the zone as it's also called. How can we be in a work flow and in a more happy place in life in general? And doing most of that from breathing connected with, of course, positive psychology and the theory of flow.

Stu: This week we welcome Thomas DeLauer. He is an American celebrity trainer, entrepreneur and an author, known for his writings on inflammation inside of the human body. His fitness journey started when he was 12, while studying art history in Italy. After seeing fitness models on magazine covers, Thomas became interested in creating a muscular physique of his own. He quickly developed a passion for exercising.

During his early 20s, Thomas took some time away from the gym to focus on his career as an entrepreneur. During that time, he developed some unhealthy habits and became overweight. He realized he needed to get back into the gym, so he spent several months training hard to get back into shape.

After several months of hard work, Thomas got his old physique back and decided to start a new business that would compliment his love for fitness, so Thomas became a personal trainer. Ever since he made the switch to fitness, he went on to grow his name successfully, and help clients around the world transform their lifestyles.

Questions asked in the episode

Are carbs the enemy or can we use them to our advantage for optimizing health?
Do you think keto is the ‘magic pill’ for weight loss?
- What are your thoughts on ‘looking fit’ vs ‘being healthy’?
- What do you do to ensure that you get the best night’s sleep?

 Stu

Okay, back to the show. This week I am excited to welcome Thomas DeLauer. Now Thomas is an expert in the world of chronic inflammation. He’s a pioneer in personal transformation. He’s got a great story himself. He’s a host of a very successful and hugely educational YouTube channel as well. So in this episode, this week we discuss the many faces of inflammation. How it’s probably sabotaging your health goals. We discuss looking fit versus being healthy and whether the ketogenic diet is right for you.

So Thomas is a great guy, hugely knowledgeable, and I’m really excited to be able to share this info with you today. Anyway, enough rambling for me. Let’s get back to the show.
[00:01:30] Hey guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition and I am delighted to welcome Thomas Delauer to the show today. Good morning Thomas. How are you?

Thomas

What is going on? Thanks for having me.

Stu

Good stuff. So look, first up Thomas, for everybody out there, specifically over here as well, that may not be familiar with what you do, I’d love for you to just tell us a little bit about yourself. Why you do what you do as well.

Thomas

Yeah. I’ll give you kind of the 30 second elevator pitch here.

Stu

Great.

Thomas

[00:02:30] So a lot of people that do know me, know me probably from YouTube and Facebook. Just from the plethora of videos I put out there but my main claim to fame was my transformation. I was 280 pounds and working kind of in a corporate healthcare environment. Very unhappy person. Very unhealthy person. I was focused on money and focused on business and focused on career. So I had a big transformation in my life. Now I’m 180 pounds. Been on covers of multiple magazines, T.V., everything like that, so in all harnessing the power of the Ketogenic diet, fasting, and really understanding inflammation. And working closely with a lot of physicians over my career, cause I was in the health care industry. I owned an ancillary lab services company.

So that was really my claim to fame. Harnessing the power of all these doctors that I worked around and utilizing it to really transform my life. Then I realized that I had a gift for articulating more complex scientific subjects and articulating health and physiology and really breaking it down for people. That’s what I do now. I create lots of videos for a living and fortunately help lots of people, or so I think I do.

[00:02:00] We've just been inundated with emails and requests from our audience over here in Australia, they're talking about "The Stark Naked 21-Day Metabolic Reset" book that seems to be causing a little bit of a stir over here as well. I dug deep and just had a little look what's it's all about, who's this about and realized that you really got a really good story to tell. From your story, you've radically changed the way you do things and now you're helping a whole heap of people. I would love, Brad, if you could perhaps just tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are, what you do and perhaps why you do it just to kick start.

Brad

[00:02:30] Yeah. Awesome. First off, I'm a husband, father of three, got my hands full. I'm a speaker now. I travel around the United States, Canada, get international a little bit here and there. Focused on the metabolism. I'm a big fan of energy. That's my thing. I learned early on at 33 that if you lack energy, you lack life. It was interesting because my life, fitness and obsession with extreme fitness and extreme nutrition, I mean just wiped me up. Talk about a curve ball in life. I was obsessed on that. I love to work with people that are burned out, tired, have roadblocks in life. Just kind of lost that zest for life.

[00:03:00] I love to just restart that. I'm a big fan of helping people live a more fulfilled life is the big goal now.
